My mother’s passport

24 February 2020
London – The Wiener Holocaust Library

On February 24, 2020, the world premiere of The Ładoś List took place at the Wiener Holocaust Library in London.

The event “Ruth, Eva and Mirjam Wiener’s Story: a recent discovery concerning their survival” featured the following speakers: Dr. Jakub Kumoch, Monika Maniewska from the Pilecki Institute, Prof. Bob Moore and Lord Daniel Finkelstein, a British journalist and columnist for “The Times” and a member of the House of Lords, whose mother Mirjam Wiener was saved from the Holocaust along with her sisters thanks to a Paraguayan passport. Among the guests were also the Polish ambassador to Great Britain, Prof. Arkady Rzegocki, Prof. Antony Polonsky, chief scientific consultant of the permanent exhibition at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, and Roger Moorhouse, a historian specializing in the history of Central Europe.

The location of the premiere was not accidental. The Wiener Holocaust Library was the first institution to research the Holocaust of the Jews. The English edition of the List gives hope that we will be able to learn the stories of other families saved thanks to the passports of Latin American countries and to find materials documenting this history which are now in private collections.
